Will
Poland soon be the best protected country in Europe? The government says it
will soon have the most modern anti- drone system on the continent.
It
could be a gamecher for Europe whose skies have been exposed as vulnerable to
hostile drones fired as part of Russia's
ongoing
war in Ukraine. From Lithuania to Germany, many European countries have seen
their air traffic disrupted because
of
drones. NATO's eastern flag has been particularly exposed with some drones even
causing damage and injuries. Last
September,
dozens of unarmed Russian drones entered Polish airspace, forcing European
allies to scramble a massive
fighter
jet, one that uses expensive ammunition. And we use the the the newest fighter
F35
with
the rocket really expensive because this rocket probably costes about from the
$500,000
to
the $1 million to shoot to the drone which the cost is $2,000.
Poland
wants to have an effective and cheaper way to ward off drones which is where
the new sense system comes in. The
system
combines radars, electronic warfare, guns, rockets, and interceptor drones.
We
build our air defense with the many levers.
First,
the system detects and classifies threats and attempts to jam the drone signal
to stop it. If that fails, interceptor drones, guns, and rockets
take
over. The send system will cost an estimated €3.5 billion, and it will be
financed in large part with an EU loan.
Some
of the Polish right, including the president, aren't happy about the letter,
setting concerns over debt and EU influence,
and
he didn't. He vetoed the relevant legislation, but the prime minister found a
way around it to secure the EU loan. Donald Tusk has described the
anti-
drone system as a cost-effective must-have and gamecher for the defense of
Poland and Europe's eastern borders.
